Harare - Morgan Tsvangirai, the leader of Zimbabwe’s main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T), was recently taken ill and was dispatched to South Africa “on the advice of his doctors” to seek treatment.

In a statement broadcast by an online publication, the party’s Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora said “early this week our President Morgan Tsvangirai was taken ill.

On the advice of his doctors, he had to travel to South Africa for treatment. Earlier in 2014, the opposition leader was taken ill and has to cancel his address at a rally.

“All I can tell you is that we got a message from the president’s doctor that he can’t come. It’s important for his health,” Tamborinyoka said.

Mwonzora added that: “Yesterday he successfully underwent a medical procedure and is recuperating well in South Africa. We are happy that our President is recovering well and we wish him a speedy recovery.

"We kindly request the nation and the party to give the President and his family the necessary space and privacy as he recovers.”

He said “the nation and the media will be kept updated.” - tinzwei.com/Online Sources
