Cosatu Verdict: Jacob Zuma Shown the Door

Jacob Zuma is no longer welcome anywhere near Cosatu meetings.

The workers’ federation took this decision following pressure from its members, who said inviting Zuma to their activities while asking him to step down was confusing the workers.

“In respect of the mandate from the workers and in line with the special central executive committee resolutions for him to step down, President Jacob Zuma will no longer be welcome to address Cosatu activities,” said general secretary of Cosatu, Bheki Ntshalintshali.

“This will be communicated to the ANC, including engagements on the implications for our alliance.”

The decision was reached following sentiments expressed by some of the federation’s members before the May Day event and the subsequent booing of Zuma at the stadium in Bloemfontein.

Ntshalintshali, who was flanked by the top six of the organisation at Cosatu House in Braamfontein, was addressing journalists after a committee meeting yesterday.

He said the committee meeting also condemned the divisive actions by some leaders of the ANC who attempted to rent crowds in Bloemfontein to disrupt and hijack Cosatu’s national event.

The ANC said they noted the public statement but wouldn’t comment until formal communication and engagement with Cosatu had taken place. - Daily Sun
