New Ground: First Female Coach for Premier League?

Harare – Prophet Walter Magaya is a man of firsts. The cleric leads the largest Christian weekly congregation in Zimbabwe, while he became the initial pastor to lead a professional football team.

And now he has reportedly appointed a first-ever female coach to lead Yadah FC in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

After a week of turbulence, leading his squad to crash to the heaviest defeat in the league, after he fired head coach Jairos Tapera, the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) founder is rumoured to have roped in Rose Mugadza to lead the hot seat.

Mugadza is a member of PHD.

Tapera was dismissed for insubordination when he selected his own players against Dynamos FC in Harare. The dismissal resulted in a 7-2 humiliating defeat to new boys Bantu Rovers.

The move, if confirmed will make the former Mighty Warriors mentor, the first female – if not the only coach to lead a male soccer team in Zimbabwe’s footballing history.

The Chronicle reports that the kneejerk resolution was prompted after a stern warning from Zifa when the Miracle boys played without a coach in Bulawayo recently.

Magaya had bestowed all technical verdicts upon his shoulders, contrary to football laws requiring qualifications to do so.

According to the state daily, Magaya could not confirm or deny the reports, electing to say, “I will get back to you.” – Sources
